Legacy Foundation Board Member Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Ruth Ann Britton, a member of the Legacy Foundation Board of Directors, is the 2015 recipient of the Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Volunteer Service.

Established in 2002 by the Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism, the award recognizes Arizonans who have dedicated their time and talents to address the needs of Arizona communities.

For 13 years, Ms. Britton served at the state level on the Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism, including service as its Chair and Vice-chair.

There were eight categories of recipients honored at a luncheon sponsored by the Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism recently held in Mesa, and these included: Lifetime Achievement; Adult; National Service; Youth; Large Organization; Small Organization; Nonprofit; and Youth Group. Sponsors of the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards included Arizona State Fair, ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation, ASU Office of University Initiatives, Cox Communications, Harkins Theaters, Salt River Project and other businesses and organizations that are ardent supporters of volunteerism in Arizona.

Ms. Britton, a Sierra Vista, Arizona, resident since 1992, has provided a lifetime of exemplary service to others as both volunteer and civic leader.  An educator by profession, Ms. Britton retired ten years ago from her fulltime role as professor/department chair at Cochise College. Following her retirement, she was named Faculty Emeritus based on her prior work at the College.
