Meet the FY2023 Responsive Grant Award Recipients
Arizona Rangers Awarded $4607.00
The Rangers will use the grant to purchase One Digital trunking radio. This radio will assist the Rangers in providing security for the Sierra Vista Public Schools.
Winchester Heights Health Organization Awarded $3000.00
The Winchester Heights Health Organization Community Center has a dirt soccer field that was built and is maintained by community members and used by men's, women's and children's soccer teams. These funds will be used to fence in the field for Jugamos Futbol! (Let's Play Soccer!).
Willcox Theater and Arts Awarded $4182.00
Funding will support ACE of Arts (Aging as a Creative Endeavor). ACE of Arts is a community wellness art program supporting seniors in their quest to explore, discover, learn, and create. Sessions span six months, combining creative exploration with social interaction, culminating in the collective sharing of their creative accomplishments.
Catholic Community Services of Southern AZ Awarded $4000.00
Catholic Community Services provides support services to families and children involved with the Department of Child Safety. One of the programs is Parent Aide Services which supervises parenting time between parents and their children. The funds will be used to renovate the Parenting Time Visitation Office to make it more family-friendly and comfortable.
Volunteer Interfaith Caregiver Program Awarded $5000.00
This project funds the use of wheelchair vans based in Sierra Vista and Willcox to better serve wheelchair-bound Neighbors with access to critical medical care. Funding will also be used for annual vehicle insurance as well as some fuel costs.
City of Douglas Awarded $3500.00
The City of Douglas will create a space where social determinants do not prevent access to optimal mental health and physical well-being. This project will be the installation of gaming tables, such as checkers and chess, at Castro Park that can accommodate people of all abilities in an open space.
The Be Kind People Project Awarded $5000.00
BE KIND will offer 2 Cochise County schools a comprehensive youth development program that will create & inspire a positive, supportive & successful classroom & school culture. Students will develop the skills & mindsets they need to thrive socially, emotionally & academically now & in the future.
Sierra Vista Police Department Awarded $3000.00
The Police Department requires a fit and healthy workforce to meet the needs of the community and a proper gym is critical. The funds will be used to purchase new fitness equipment for the Sierra Vista Police Department (SVPD) Gym. The new equipment will replace poorly functioning equipment so that members of the SVPD may meet their fitness goals.
Senior Citizens of Patagonia Awarded $850.00
Senior Citizens of Patagonia will use the funds to provide First Aid and CPR Training to their volunteer transportation drivers and dining room helpers. As most of its clients are seniors and people with disabilities, it is beneficial that these volunteers be familiar with First Aid and CPR. With this grant, eight people will be trained with this knowledge.
City of Willcox Awarded $4000.00
The funds will be used to create Musical Art-Inspired Active Play. By adding arts-related play equipment to Willcox public park, the City of Willcox will increase active play, introduce music making, facilitate engagement across generations, and support creativity. While the project targets children, the equipment is designed to support interactive play for all sizes and abilities.
San Simon Fire District Awarded $4935.00
San Simon Fire District wants to make sure its firefighters have the best gear available to fight fires and be well protected. These funds will be used to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus for use by the firefighters.
Cochise County Master Gardener Association Awarded $3503.00
The Cochise County Master Gardener educational outreach project funds will help to support 3 entities of its program: 1) Classes and hands-on workshops offered to the community, 2) A Seed Library, 3) A 3-hour educational Field Trip Program in the Discovery Gardens offered to all schools in the county.
Operation Toothbrush for Homeless Veterans Awarded $3900.00
This project will provide personal hygiene items for our homeless and low-income veterans in Cochise County communities. On-the-street mental health support will be provided and specific resources and guidance will be offered while providing these “street” setting non-traditional support groups.
Cochise Serving Veterans Awarded $4000.00
Veterans Financial Support through the Veterans Assistance Program is how Cochise Serving Veterans will use the funds. The "Veterans Assistance Program" (VAP) provides eligible veterans and their families with emergency housing, utilities, food, transportation, employment opportunities and counseling; supporting a veteran's ability to sustain safe and secure conditions in a difficult financial status.
Douglas ARC Awarded $4000.00
Douglas Arc is involved with community wellness by preparing and delivering 175 home deliver meals daily five days per week in Douglas, Bisbee, and Elfrida areas. These funds will purchase the food trays, salad and desert containers that are used daily.
Easterseals Blake Foundation Awarded $2500.00
The funds will be used to help Identify developmental delays in Cochise County children through an online screening tool. The pandemic’s impact on services for young children has caused a decrease in the number of children identified as having developmental delays. By using social media to promote an on-line tool, Easterseals Blake Foundation will identify Cochise County children with developmental delays and help them receive needed support.
