Since the first grant was given back in 2015, the Legacy Foundation has given over $20 million to nonprofit and government organizations across Cochise and eastern Santa Cruz Counties.
Prior to giving grants, the Legacy Foundation gifted the former Sierra Vista Regional Health Center to Cochise College for a new state-of-the-art Cochise College Downtown Center for nursing and allied health programs.
Over the years:
- Over 200 distinct organizations have received funding from the Legacy Foundation
- 800 different grants and sponsorships have been awarded
- More than 65 networking workshops have been held
- Over 1,360 people participated in workshops
- Nearly $8 million awarded in Strategic Funding
- Over $3 million awarded in Innovative Funding
- Over $2 million awarded in Discretionary and COVID-19 funding
- Nearly $1 million in Responsive, Fast Pitch, and Sponsorships awarded
Amazing changes have occurred in communities across Cochise and eastern Santa Cruz Counties as a result of grants given. In Sierra Vista, a new Salvation Army Community Center was built. In Douglas, intercity bus transportation, Cochise Connection, started routes to Bisbee and Sierra Vista. In Winchester Heights, a new community center and playground were built. In Huachuca City, a new Community Garden started to grow, and grow! In Willcox, new LED lighting and playground equipment were added to the park. In Bisbee, Benson, Tombstone, Elfrida, and Portal, lives were touched through grants given to food pantries, first responders, schools, parks, and health providers.
In addition to funding, the Legacy Foundation has expanded its ways to offer capacity building to nonprofits. Starting with the Fast Pitch grant which nonprofits can use to build capacity through education and technology, the Legacy Foundation also offers nonprofit education through classes and technical support through 1:1 mentoring.
As we look to the future, plans have been developed for a new state-of-the-art event center and retreat center on the Legacy Foundation campus.
